Dena Karari
Founder & President
Denna Kerari is singularly passionate about the wellbeing and education of disadvantaged youth in Iran. Born and raised among the Lor and Tork Ashayer of the Fars Province, she brings an intimate knowledge of the challenges and hardships of impoverished families of rural Iran. Her travels, volunteer services, and personal and professional networks have given her a special insight into the urgent and unmet needs among the communities in these regions. Denna tackles problems with diverse and resourceful solutions, and with an eye toward adaptability and sustainability. Guided by her passion and perspective, Dena founded the Mehr Foundation, which helps support impoverished children of the Fars, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyr-Ahmad Provinces. She has established a resource center in the Rostam County of the Fars Province to provide Ashyaer children with better access to education and the arts. Recognizing the particularly dire impact COVID-19 would have on Iran’s healthcare system, Denna promptly took on a major volunteer role in raising funds and delivering medical supplies and assistance to more than 30 hospitals and healthcare workers in Iran. COVID posed a less immediate but no less serious threat to the education of disadvantaged children of Iran. Denna’s ideas initiated the E-Learning Centers for students, which provided safe and clean spaces to students without access to smart gadgets or internet to transition to e-learning. Denna has a degree in Electrical engineering and works in the high tech industry of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has a flair and a passion for cooking, enjoys growing a range of fruits and vegetables in her garden while caring for her goats and chickens, and has a love for exploring nature.
